For the last year or so, I’ve been trying to follow the Dash Diet. This blog is my personal recipe book, so that all my Dash-friendly recipes are in one easy-to-find location and it’s simple to refer to them using the categories and tags. This diet was originally created to lower blood pressure by incorporating less processed foods, more fruits and vegetables, and lean protein. The studies showed that it also help in reducing weight! This was a very positive side effect of following this diet, which has been voted the best diet for the past 3 years or so.

Since I’m a big believer in eating fresh foods, with as little processing as possible, I realized that this would be a great diet for me. Diet is not the right word for this since it’s not something which you do for just a little bit – it should actually become a life-long eating plan.

Marla Heller, MS RD, is the leading expert on this diet and she has written a couple of books which have become the cornerstone for this way of eating. By reading her book, The Dash Diet Weight Loss Solution, you will learn everything you need to know about incorporating this way of eating into your everyday life. This book gives you lots of recipes to try and guidelines for what makes for a good Dash meal plan.

  1. Hello- great recipes! I am following the DASH gold book – but I love italian food and culture! I am wondering if you have any dessert recipes for phase one (kind of limited to jello…) or phase two- I make a ricotta dessert – adding a little truvia, vanilla, yogurt and topping with berries for my italisn cheesecake! It is good. Have you had success with the plan? Best, Greg

    • Thanks for your comments, Greg! I’m glad you are enjoying the recipes and that you’re following the Dash diet! I really think it’s a great and healthy way of eating. Personally, I’m not a big dessert fan and so I haven’t really made any desserts while on the plan, but your cheesecake sounds like it would fit into the plan pretty well and it sounds delicious! It’s amazing how you really start to be aware of the ingredients that go into our meals and how, by following this plan, you learn to make really healthy choices! Keep up the good work and please feel free to keep commenting!
